FreeDynamic equalizer

EQ Pro

24-band dynamic EQ

Equalizer with up to 24 dynamic bands, Mid/Side and Left/Right per band, four phase modes and an analyzer. Free.

Curve

24 bands and filter types

The curve on screen is computed from the same filter coefficients the audio runs through. It shows what the filters do, not an approximation of it.

  • Up to 24 freely typed bands, each host-automatable
  • Bells, shelves, cuts, notch and Tilt band types
  • Symmetric constant-Q: a cut mirrors the boost exactly

Compressor in every band

Every band has a compressor. The band's own frequency and Q are its detector, so it acts when that range gets loud and rests otherwise. FULL shows the whole set: threshold, ratio, knee, attack and release.

  • Threshold, ratio (to brickwall), knee, attack, release per band
  • A per-band meter: level, threshold marker and live gain reduction
  • Internal or external sidechain, per band

Analyzer

Frequency landmarks

Spectrum landmarks marks the frequencies that keep standing out over time, the steady peaks rather than the loud moments. A marker can be a problem or the character of the instrument; the analyzer does not know which. Click a marker to read its frequency and note and to hear that frequency alone, double-click to drop a band there, drag to sweep.

  • Steady peaks emphasised, drifting ones fade away
  • Click a marker for its frequency and note, and to hear it
  • Double-click to drop a band at that frequency
  • Hover for a quick tooltip, drag to sweep
  • The markers change nothing by themselves

Auto Gain

Auto Gain compensates the gain of the curve, including what the dynamic bands add or remove. It is computed from the settings, not measured, so it does not pump. Bypass then compares the tone at the same loudness.

  • Auto Gain follows the dynamics, with no detector of its own
  • Gain Scale: 0 to 200 %, the curve follows in real time
  • Input and output trim with stereo metering
  • Bypass for A/B at matched level

Details

  • Cut slopes from 6 to 96 dB per octave
  • Each band on stereo, Mid, Side, Left or Right
  • Four phase modes. Digital, Standard and Natural add no latency; Linear adds one FFT window, 85 ms at 48 kHz
  • Oversampling off, 2x or 4x
  • Analyzer before or after the EQ, with display tilt and decay
  • Window resizable from 75 to 200 %
  • Factory and user presets, A/B compare
  • macOS: VST3 and AU. Windows: VST3

Download

EQ Pro is free, and the download is the whole plug-in. There is no account and no key file. The macOS installer contains VST3 and AU. For Windows there is a zip with the VST3; copy it into your VST3 folder.
